The space

Come and stay for a unique experience of Somes Sound Harbor. The Sound is the only fjard in the East coast. This fjard runs deep into Mount Desert Island, the main site of Acadia National Park. See eagles, wild fowls & other wildlife right at your backyard. Complimentary kayaks & life vests are available to explore the Harbor. Enjoy sunrise, moonrises or stargaze from the dock.


Located in Somesville at Mount Desert Island right in the middle of everything Acadia National National Park has to offer, with convenient access to Bar Harbor, SW Harbor & NE Harbor (13-15 mins drive). The house is in a National Historic District in between the Somesville Library & The Gallery at Somes Sound. The Somesville Museum & Gardens is right across the street. There are multiple hiking trails close by.


You can't get any closer to the water than this. The waterfront is tidal which is awesome. On high tide the ocean water is about 5 feet from the house. High tide is about 8-12 feet high. Low tide is perfect for beach exploration.


This is a 3 level house with 3 bedrooms and 4 full bathrooms. Each bedroom has its own en-suite bath. The fourth full bathroom is located on the main level. There are two master bedrooms located respectively on the upper and lower levels of the house. Each with king size beds. The second bedroom in the upper level has two queen beds. This waterfront vacation home offers unforgettable views of Somes Harbor with its backdrop mountains of Acadia National Park. The backyard also features a private wharf with gangway to the floating dock.


Located right in the middle of the Historic Village of Somesville. The house is located between the Somesville Library and the Gallery at Somes Sound. Across the street to the left side is the historic Somesville Museum & Gardens with the famous picturesque Somesville wooden walk bridge. Very conveniently located for exploring Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Mill Pond is on the right side of the house. During Spring, Alewives (fish) would swarm under the private wharf waiting for the tide to be high enough for them to swim to the fish ladder towards Mill Pond, then to Somes Pond. The beautiful Echo Lake with its sandy beach and Long Pond which is perfect for kayaking & stand up paddle boarding are just 5-7 minutes from the house .


The Upper Level of this vacation home features two bedrooms. The master bedroom has an expansive picture window of the Somes. The Master Bedroom features king size bed, ensuite bath (walk in shower, vanity, toilet), smart tv, and comfortable power Leather Italia loveseat. The second bedroom has queen beds and an en-suite bath (walk in shower, vanity, toilet).


The Lower Level Master bedroom has an open concept design. This bedroom is accessed via the main level with full flight of stairs with rail on the left upon coming down. It has sliding glass door that exits to the waterfront where the private wharf and dock are located. This room features, a beautiful picture window with seating for three. There is an entertainment area with power reclining Leather Italia loveseat to view the smart TV. The full bath features a free standing bath tub, vanity sink, & toilet. This lower level also houses the laundry room with one washer and two dryers.


The main floor (level with the parking area) features the living room with comfortable oversized 2 leather loveseats and 1 sofa. Sit back and enjoy our 75 inch smart TV. Dine and enjoy the Harbor view through the wide picture window . Breakfast nook has seating for 3 and the dining table with seating for 5. The kitchen has full size appliances: fridge, stove top oven, dishwasher, counter top microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and blender.


The house is four seasons. During the cooler months of the year the house has two sources of heat (late Fall, Winter, Early Spring). The house features heat pumps with Air-condition (Summer) / Heating features and electric baseboard heaters.


The backyard features propane fire pit with comfortable polywood Adirondock chairs. A private wharf with gangway to the float for easy access to the water. The waterfront is tidal. There's complimentary Kayaks. There are life vests for guest to use. They are complimentary. The wharf has outdoor dining table with seating for 8 with the propane fired grill right next to it.


The property can park two vehicles parallel to each other. No room for a third vehicle. We have an EV charger that can be used with a fee.


This house was designed with guest comfort in mind.


The wharf, gangway, & dock will not be available from mid October to April. The outdoor patio furniture & propane grill are stored during the cold months of November to March, however the grill can be available on demand during the cold months. Please let the host know.

Guest access

You may walk or ride your bike around town. Trails and scenic areas are just a short drive away. The Island Explorer Bus is free provided you have a Park Pass. One of their bus stops is located next door in front of the somesville Public Library. Please visit their web site for their designated Bus Stops and destinations.

Other things to note

Somesville is a national historic district located in the heart of MDI - very convenient access to Acadia and Bar Harbor.


Strictly no smoking, vaping or use of drugs.


Guests with service animals are encouraged to notify the host / owner because of severe allergy to pet hair and dander. For medical reasons Host will not be able to host guests with animals.


During May to October Check In time is at 5:00 PM and Check Out time is at 10:00 AM. However on off peak season (November to April) provided there are no same day turnovers or a least a day gap between guest stays- we allow early check in between 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm.


Grill, outdoor patio furniture, and the docks are not available from mid October to April. The gangway is stored on the right side of the wharf during the cold months. The grill is available on demand by advanced request.


We have high chair and pack n' play readily available during your stay. There’s no bedroom on the first floor, the stairs towards the second floor is grandfathered (old design)- they are a little steep, there are railings however to hold onto. The stairs towards the lower level bedroom is code standard with rails.


The house is located at Main St. - traffic noise may be heard. Its location however is perfect because out back is picture perfect view of the Sound-Mountain-Water Fowls- Sea Mammals . People near & far take photos or paint the view behind this home.

Please note that any kayaks/lifejackets located on or near the property are not part of the rental agreement and are not an included amenity.


Any use of kayaks is entirely voluntary and at your own risk. Kayaking involves inherent dangers, including injury or drowning. The host does not provide supervision, instruction, safety equipment, or inspection, and assumes no responsibility for kayak use.


By choosing to use the kayaks, you agree to assume all risks and release the host and property owner from any liability, to the fullest extent permitted under Maine law, for any injury, damage, or loss.


Children/minors: The host does not supervise minor use. You are solely responsible for the supervision and safety of all minors, and you assume full responsibility for any injuries involving children.


Guests assume all risks associated with kayaking, including changing tides, currents, and weather conditions. Life jackets must be worn at all times. Kayaking is permitted at your own risk, and the property owner is not liable for accidents, injuries, or lost/damaged equipment. Check local conditions before heading out.


Guests are required to sign a waiver regarding use of kayaks.

Neighborhood highlights

The area is in a prime location with gorgeous views year round and very convenient access to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Somes Sound is literally your backyard! A few steps to the Museum & Garden of Somesville, a skip and a hop to the Library and The Gallery At Somes Sound. A few minutes drive to multiple park hiking trails, Beech mountain, and Echo Lake to name a few.

The fish ladder is right at your back yard where migrating fish climb up during spring. Birds of all sizes including Eagles congregate to feast on the Alewives (fish).


Swim or explore in either of the two lakes and pond nearby. Long Pond has a public boat launch area and a small public swim area. Infront of the public boat launch is the National Park Canoe & Kayak Rental. Explore Long Pond with their available water crafts! Echo Lake is a few minutes drive. Some's pond is a good place to explore with a kayak. Mill Pond is right next to the house and is great spot to take photos of sunset.

Getting around

You can ride your bike around town. Drive to the nearby Hiking trails. Downtown bar Harbor is about a 10-12 min drive. The Island Explorer Bus is free provided you have a Park Pass. Please visit their web site to know their bus stop locations and destinations throughout the town and the National Park.


Grocery stores in Southwest Harbor, Tremont, Northeast Harbor, and Bar Harbor are located a few minutes drive from the house.
